Lucky No 7 for unlucky No 1 shirt?

18/02/2011 @ 10:25

It has become one of the most talked about sagas in local football but one village club finally hopes to have exorcised the demons of its No 1 shirt!

Guilsfield Reserves will this Saturday call upon its seventh goalkeeper in as many matches with new signing Paul Foster being thrown in at the deep end at Llansantffraid for a Village Cup match.

But he follows in the footsteps of six previous goalkeepers who have all been drafted in after a series of bizarre events ruled one out after the other.

“I can’t imagine this has happened anywhere before!” said player-manager Oli Morgan. “It is hard enough trying to get one person in goal all season let alone seven in as many matches!”

Stopper No 1
John Gough: Veteran keeper becomes unavailable after declaring he will follow the Ashes Down Under.

Stopper No. 2
Paul Jones: Suffers an horrific head injury which required two visits to hospital with concussion

Stopper No. 3
Andy Downes: Midfielder steps in to fill the void with no goalkeeper available and keeps a clean sheet!

Stopper No. 4
Paul Maguire: First team goalkeeper plays a midweek game at Berriew Reserves

Stopper No. 5
Sam Ward (right): Big keeper’s impressive debut ends in a ghastly incident which leaves part of his ear hanging by a thread and requiring surgery

Stopper No. 6
Phil Turnbull: Another outfield player dons the gloves as the club wins at Bettws

Stopper No. 7
Paul Foster: Experienced goalkeeper who will make his debut with a return to the club against Llansantffraid Reserves on Saturday!
