World War 1 at home
Running through to November 28, the museum is focusing on life at home during that time and how the war affected those left behind whether it be in Welshpool and Montgomeryshire or in the rest of the United Kingdom.
The exhibition looks at the men volunteering or called up for the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry and other regiments through the memorabilia and souvenirs they sent back and how they were looked after at the front and at home.
It also includes the food rationing and agricultural measures taken to feed the army and the population as well as the women’s new roles in the war factories.
There is also a display on how the 1917 Russian revolution affected the British royal family.
The displays are based on the museum’s own collection of memorabilia and objects from World War 1. It is planned that the next WW1 exhibition in 2018 will give local people an opportunity to lend relevant items to the museum thus ensuring that hitherto hidden stories about local men and women are made accessible to a wider audience.

The Museum is open Weekdays (except Wednesday) from 11am-1pm and 2-5pm
and Saturdays from 11am-2pm.
