WI membership drive launched

05/01/2018 @ 05:08

The newly installed president of Welshpool Women’s Institute is on a mission to increase membership of the branch.

“The branch has been established for 80 years and My aim for this year is to increase our membership and to raise our profile within Welshpool” said Linda Hilditch.

“I am proud to say I am Welshpool born and bred but always thought the WI was for a certain section of Welshpool community. But having joined it four years ago found this to be untrue - WI welcomes all women.

“I would like to invite any woman living in Welshpool who would like to make new friends, learn about our town or learn new skills to come along and join us. We would make them most welcome.”

The branch meet on the second Wednesday of the month at the Methodist Church Schoolroom in High Street at 7.30pm, so the next meeting is Wednesday 10th January.

“During the evening we have a business meeting followed by a talk or demonstration and then a light supper,” said the new president.

“During the year we attend larger group meetings, take part in craft shows, hold day trips including one to the theatre. Some of our members take part in wider actives like WI holidays.

“You do not have to know how to make jam (I've never made any) or know how to bake a cake. But you may have new skills to offer other members.

“WI is open to women of all ages and we would love new members to reflect the diversity we have in Welshpool.

“If anyone would like talk to me before coming along; as I know it can sometimes be difficult to take the first step into a new venture, please call me on 01938 552267 or email me lindameryljones@hotmail.com
