Council battling to keep Powys on the move

Powys County Council is battling to keep roads open in the wake of the biggest snow storm in years and the message is “stay indoors unless you really have to go out.”

Liam Fitzpatrick, Portfolio holder for Highways said: “The situation is pretty grim, particularly to the north of Llandrindod and we are utilising 32 gritters/snow ploughs and outside contractors have been called in to North Powys in a bid to keep primary routes open.

“We are also assisting the emergency services with medical issues and the advice is still don’t drive unless you really have to.

“Secondary routes are very badly affected with drifting and more snow is expected this afternoon with a very cold night to follow.”

Arriva Trains are not running and there is only a limited bus service in operation.
