Paris here we come!

23/04/2018 @ 04:40

The long months of training are over as a group of local residents will depart on Tuesday for a gruelling 340-mile cycle ride to Paris, taking just four days.

The Great Fitness Cycling Event 2018 involves staff and members from the Welshpool fitness centre and is raising much needed funds for Sport Relief and Blossom’s Legacy. They will depart at 8am.

Training has been intense over the past few weeks and with all the preparations now in place, the group is eager to get out onto the road.

“We have raised thousands of pounds so far and we are really grateful to everyone who has supported us,” said Chris Greatorex, from Great Fitness. “It will be really tough going but the thought of raising all that money will keep us positive throughout for sure.

"We'd also like to thank Tony Brooks for all the advice and support he has given us as well as the work he has done on our bikes and donating spares for the journey."

Day One

A tough start of 111 miles will take the riders from Welshpool to a place called Alvescot, close to Oxford. This will be the furthest distance that the 14 cyclists will endure.

Day Two

Another monster total of 104 miles from Alvescot to Worthing on the South Coast, ready to make the crossing the following day.

Day Three

A somewhat ‘easier’ day of 54 miles on the bike that will consist of 20 miles from Worthing to Newhaven, and then 34 miles in France from Dieppe to Forges-les-Eaux.

Day Four

The final day comes to around 71 miles from Forges-les-Eaux to the Eiffel Tower in the centre of the French capital, where friends and family will be waiting with a much needed drink!

You can follow the group’s progress through the Great Fitness Facebook page.
