Poetry in motion!

As we’ve been reporting, the Welshpool Music Festival takes place on Sunday, but just two weeks later there will be another arts festival for the town to look forward to.

The fourth Welshpool Poetry Festival takes place on June 8-9 and is sponsored for the first time by the Ashley Family Foundation.

The headline poets have been confirmed as Jonathan Davidson and Susannah Dickey on the Friday from 7.30pm at the library. Tickets are priced £7.50 and include a drink.

On the Saturday, the Festival welcomes Andrew McMillan, Jean Sprackland and Jane Commane from 7.30pm at the Church House. Again tickets are £7.50 and include a drink. Andrew will be announcing the winners of the Open Poetry Competition which he has judged. From 5.30-7pm visitors can bring along their favourite tipple and take part in the free Open Mic which is a great opportunity to hear established, new and emerging poets read their work.

“Book your slot on the day, first come, first served!” said a spokesperson. “There will also be workshops going on for both children and adults, however, all places are fully booked. So why not visit the Emergency Poet, Deborah Alma, in her vintage ambulance from noon on Saturday on the lawn at Church House for a free poetry prescription?

“Welshpool has a reputation for attracting the very best in contemporary poetry - come and be a part of this stunning event.”
