A couple have raised almost £20,000 through staging memorable local events, and they are planning for their biggest and best yet this weekend.
Former Wales rugby international Rupert Moon will be a star guest at the Border Raceway event taking place at Criggion on Saturday and Sunday, with all profits going to Welsh Hearts, the heart charity for Wales.
“We organised our first event in 2015 and since then we have held events in various locations throughout mid Wales and Shropshire,” said Lisa Evans, who said that the day she and husband Gareth (pictured) took over Border Raceway from a friend, they decided all profits would be for charity.
“We are always looking for new locations to hold more events throughout the year and beyond and charities to support.”
So far a whopping £17,956.70 has been raised from 12 events with money being handed over to a number of good causes including Welshpool Food Bank, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Wales Air Ambulance, as well as helping to buy trikes for two disabled children and raising funds for a man who lost his leg in an accident.
“This weekend promises to be our biggest and best event yet,” Lisa added. “This will be our third event on land owned by Alan and Sue Lloyd who were are hugely grateful to. Without farmers’ support we couldn’t do the amazing things we have achieved so far.
“Racing this weekend starts at 12pm on both days and the spectators’ gate opens at 10.30am. We have drivers travelling in from as far as Manchester, Bolton, Birmingham, and Barmouth and as close as yards away from the fields!”
Rupert Moon is expected to be taking part in races on Saturday and there will be a number of different races throughout the weekend, from juniors up to races featuring popular cars from yesteryear.
There will be bouncy castles (weather permitting), ice cream van, catering van and craft stalls on the two days too.
The event is being held at Criggion (SY5 9BE) and, on Sunday, there will also be the chance to enjoy passenger seat rides during half time.
Spectators Entrance fee is £5 for adults and £1 for kids.
