It’s released!

Ahead of its first public play tomorrow at its official release in Welshpool, The Fire Tones’ bid for Christmas No. 1 can now be heard on You Tube.

‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ is a stunning version of the Band Aid original, an idea that was initially cooked up during a night out in the town last year.

The idea was floated by Welshpool firefighter Chris Birdsell-Jones when he saw how the Pheasant united in song when it came on the pub’s jukebox.

One year on and the dream has become a reality with the brilliant remake featuring more than 40 firefighters from across the UK who came together last month in Birmingham to record.

Meanwhile, one of the creators of Band Aid has given his personal endorsement to The Fire Tones.

Midge Ure, who started Band Aid with Bob Geldof, said last night: “Congratulations to The Fire Tones on their version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’. Forty true heroes getting to raise money for not only The Band Aid Trust but also for The Firefighters Charity.”

He went on to wish them “all the luck in the world” in his statement.

Meanwhile, preparations are continuing for the big public premiere tomorrow night in Welshpool. The Christmas Lights are due to be switched on at 7pm, with the video being played on two big screens at around 7.20pm.
