A night (or two) at the Opera?

Mid Wales Opera (MWO) are celebrating their 30th birthday with a whole weekend of live opera at Hafren, Newtown, this weekend.

On Friday, soprano Galina Averina (pictured), who sang the role of Pamina in MWO’s 2017 The Magic Flute, is joined by singers from Wales International Academy of Voice and some familiar faces from MWO’s past, including Director Stephen Medcalf, for a Gala concert of operatic favourites celebrating 30 years of the group’s work with Hafren. More information here.

On Saturday, MWO unveil their brand new production of Puccini’s dramatic masterpiece Tosca, featuring Welsh soprano Elin Pritchard in the title role as the doomed diva Floria Tosca.

Tosca is probably the most operatic opera ever written – be prepared for drama, passion, catchy tunes and murder – what’s not to love? More on that can be found here.
