Following the successful productions of Little Shop of Horrors and the smash sell-out High School Musical in 2010, Get Your 'Wigle' On are back with Fame The Musical, with a local lad leading the cast.

Berriew actor James Broxton (right), 24, pictured,  plays the part of Nick Piazza, an ambitious, enthusiastic, classical actor who is very serious about his craft, and he expects the show to prove a local box office hit.

“I had such a wonderful time playing Troy Bolton in High School Musical and I’m really looking forward to being back at Theatre Severn in the role of Nick Piazza,” explained James, who was recently named the Best Actor at the Montgomeryshire YFC Entertainment Festival at Theatr Hafren.

“I’m really excited about the show this year. Fame The Musical is a great story that comes complete with bright costumes, glittering sets, great songs and fantastic dance moves. The show will be a treat for everyone, (although some scenes do contain some mild language and sexual references), packed with comedy, music and spectacle,” continued the former Berriew Primary School and Welshpool High School pupil.

Set in the vibrant 1980's, Fame tells the bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring story, of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of gruelling artistic and academic work.

With candour, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today. The all singing all dancing show features plenty of local talent and promises to maintain the high standard already set by the group.

Fame The Musical runs at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury for four shows: Thursday, June 9; Friday, June 10; and two shows on Saturday, June 11. Evening performances start at 7.30pm while the Saturday Matinee performance is 2.30pm.

Tickets cost between £14 and £10 for the evening performance and £12 and £8 for the Matinee performance and can be purchased through the box office on 01743 281281.

James concluded: “High School Musical sold out so I urge people to get their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
