McCartneys staff raise charity cash

09/02/2020 @ 09:26

Staff at McCartneys auctioneers and estate agents have handed over a cheque for £4,000 to The Alzheimer’s Society.

Five years ago McCartneys decided to adopt a charity of the ye and in 2019 that charity was The Alzheimer’s Society UK.

The Alzheimer’s Society UK offers support for all kinds of dementia, it also funds research and actively campaigns for those affected and their families.

The team at McCartneys wanted to help with this wonderful work, so that no one has to face dementia alone. Their fund raising ranged from guess the sweets in the jar competition, held at many of their shows throughout the year, to cupcake sales, denim for dementia day, elf day, carnival games and the ultimate challenge - climbing Pen y Fan 10 times in 24 hours, the equivalent of Everest.

Part of the intrepid team of climbers was Jamie Tulloch who proudly presented the cheque to Lisa Courtney of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Jamie says, “It was once said that people first diagnosed with dementia felt they had a mountain to climb—a looming colossal obstacle of unchartered territory. We chose to help climb that mountain with them.  Our clients, family & friends were wonderful in supporting us.”

Lisa, who braved the wind & rain to join the team for an ascent of Pen Y Fan, told us “For every £1 of expenditure, 89p is spent on improving the lives of people with dementia. The remaining 11p is spent on supporting frontline activities.

With the generous support of McCartneys during 2019 raising an incredible £4,000.00 for Alzheimer’s Society, we will make even greater progress towards our vision of a world without dementia. Thank you.”

Plans are now in place to begin raising money for another charity in 2020 which will be announced very soon.
