New AM appointed Shadow Minister

Montgomeryshire’s newly elected Assembly Member Russell George has been appointed Shadow Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development.

Mr George is an opponent of on-shore wind farms and has been heavily involved in calling for a full review of the Welsh Government’s renewable energy policy.

Speaking of his new role, Russell George AM said: “I am delighted to have been given such a wide-ranging portfolio. Having lived and worked in Montgomeryshire all my life, I am outraged with the Welsh Government’s obsession with wind farms and the plans to build hundreds of large wind farms with the associated infrastructure in our area which are completely out of proportion. Successive Welsh Governments have neglected us in Mid Wales and we are not prepared to be ignored.”

"The environment, sustainable development and the need for a broader range of renewable energies are important. We now need an urgent review of the out-dated policy on how Wales meets its renewable energy targets. I want to speak up and support communities across Wales by campaigning for an urgent review and scrutinising and holding the Welsh Government to account for its flawed policy.

"I will work with colleagues throughout the Assembly and with the wider community throughout Montgomeryshire to ensure that the voice of Mid Wales is heard loud and clear."
