Osfest may only be in its second year but this weekend’s festival looks set to elevate it to one of the best ‘second tier’ music weekends of the year.
And among the chart topping acts like Example, Tinchy Stryder, The Feeling and the Boomtown Rats, three Welshpool acts will be taking their spot in the spotlight.
Welshpool Indie-Rock act Colour Sunday will perform on the main stage following their headline slot on the side stage at last year’s festival.
It means thousands of festival goers will hear tracks of their upcoming album and also have the chance to get their hands on the debut offering free of charge.
Singer Tom Carter said: “We are very pleased to be asked back as we know competition for slots are fierce! We will do our best to entertain as always and will hopefully be playing a couple of new tracks from our forth-coming album due out later in the year. We’ve also decided to give away a few hundred CD’s to encourage everyone to make sure they are down the front if they want one.”
Singer-songwriter Dai Robs (left) will play on Saturday for the first time with his new backing band. Meanwhile, ‘String the Marionette’ won through a tough Battle of the Bands competition to land a slot at the festival on a side stage.
All three acts are under the wing of Welshpool’s Teller Promotions, the company responsible for many music events in and around the Mid Wales area. Teller Promotion’s spokesman Ben Picken said: “We are extremely pleased that three of our artists have been invited to be involved in one of the area’s largest and prestigious festivals. It is a great reflection on the calibre of acts we currently have in Welshpool and I am very happy that these are artists are getting some of the recognition they deserve.”
OsFest has expanded to three days, transforming the 37-acre Oswestry Showground site into a Festival Village with camping, a food village, main stage, funfair, music workshops and many other attractions aimed at a wide and varied audience.
The festival takes place from 4.00pm on Friday 27th May until Sunday 29th May 2011.
