University's skills campaign

06/02/2021 @ 07:49

A campaign to harness the untapped strengths of North Wales and build on the region’s skills potential has been launched by Wrexham Glyndwr University.

The Learn Local campaign, which begins this week, is among a range of measures which the university is taking designed to boost the region’s workforce and economy. Acting as both as a standalone institution and as key player in wider regional partnerships, the university is aiming to remind people of the strengths of North Wales as a place to live, work – and to study.

Director of Marketing and Admissions at Wrexham Glyndwr University, Helena Eaton, said: “As a university, we’ve got a strong tradition of boosting the skills of our workforce and the strength of our local industries here in North East Wales.

“And while this past year has been one of great change, we want to do even more to harness the untapped talent of our region.

“As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, we know there will be a demand for highly educated, skilled and experienced graduates, and that they hold the potential to transform our community’s health, wellness, financial stability, and workforce evolution.

“That’s why we’re launching our Learn Local campaign - to make sure that everyone has the chance to find out just what studying at Wrexham Glyndwr University can do for their career, our region – and our collective future.”

The campaign will run across outdoor advertising, radio channels, social media and more over the coming months – accompanied by a wide range of covid-safe experience events, Open Days, and much more.

It will complement  the university’s Campus 2025 project – has already seen £18.5m invested locally to date, boosting facilities in Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire – with much more planned.

The most recently-announced investments will see a £1million programme begin in spring 2021, with additional areas on B Corridor in the main Plas Coch building  upgraded and accessibility improvements at the university’s Regent Street campus.

Further improvements at Regent Street will include a new entrance lounge, a social learning space for students, a revamp of the shop, library and courtyard, a new café, the installation of a ramp to improve accessibility to the main building and a variety of new teaching spaces including a studio and a Maker LAB – which will be crucial to Glyndwr’s new, industry-focussed Product Design degree.

Previous boosts to the student experience at Glyndwr have included a host of new social learning space, lecture theatre and classroom upgrades - as well as course-focussed investments in areas such as health and veterinary care.

Helena added: “Our industry standard degrees are designed to equip you with the skills you need to succeed - and we are confident that we can find a suitable, career-focussed course for you.

“We’ve not only upgraded our physical infrastructure – we’ve also re-imagined the way you learn.

“Our Active Learning Framework offers digital content created by our own staff, and blends this with interactive sessions on-line - or face-to-face on campus when essential.

“Coupled with our wider online courses – which have seen students from Australia, America and more welcomed into our learning community – we can offer our students a global experience with a local feel – and a safe, flexible approach.

“With exciting plans for both major public-sector investment in North Wales – and some very well-known private sector investors too – there has never been a better time to learn locally.

“So whether you’re starting to find your way and looking to build a career in a key industry, or you’re looking for a new direction in life, invest in yourself and shape your future at Wrexham Glyndwr University.”
