A young Montgomery resident has been helping local youngsters to beat the lockdown learning blues by bringing the fun back into education.
Marianne Després-Davies created her weekly “Busy Bobby” quizzes during the first lock-down last year, and has expanded her challenges with a new web site.
Marianne is a member of the 1st Montgomery Rangers and originally designed the puzzles as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. A fellow Ranger created the little Bobby mascot with his cheeky smile.
The fun quizzes varied from sudoku to mazes and Welsh word searches, and proved extremely popular with both children and their parents.
“As a high school student, I have been struggling with some of the work being set during these lock-downs,” she said.
“So, I make these puzzles and quizzes to ensure younger children can have some fun and should never have to worry with learning at home, or fall behind with work.”
Given the great feedback, Marianne has now begun her own quiz website called Bobby the Bee’s HomeLearning Help.
Each week, she plans to add three quizzes focusing on one particular subject. They will have different levels of difficulty. Each quiz will have 20 questions, and if an incorrect answer is submitted there is an explanation as to how and why it went wrong so children can understand better, and try again for a higher score if they wish.
Marianne’s quizzes can be found here.
