Wheelchair star turns on the lights

Crowds ignored the freezing conditions to attend Welshpool’s Winter Festival and celebrate the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights yesterday.

And there was a surprise for those who braved the bitterly cold wind when Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby gold medallist Jim Roberts was introduced by Welshpool Mayor Councillor Alison Davies to switch on the lights.

There was something for everyone to enjoy from fairground rides, a stilt walker to a visit to see Father Christmas.
