A Welshpool evening for Tim

26/01/2022 @ 10:02

A number of top-class musicians have signed up to play a fundraiser next month in memory of a local artist who died in tragic circumstances three years ago.

Welshpool Town Hall will play host to the evening of live music on February 12 in tribute to well-known local musician Tim Guttridge, who passed away on New Year’s Eve, 2018.

Organised by Charman Promotions, ‘An Evening for Tim’ will be raising funds to be split equally between the mental health charity Mind and the Tim Guttridge Memorial Fund.

Set up by Charman Promotions head Stewart Charman and Barry Williams, who sang with Tim in the Welshpool-based group One Crow Sorrow, the Fund aims to provide equipment and opportunities to the local community to enable especially young people to take up music.

Headlining the evening will be honky-tonk country rockabilly musician Lars Pluto. Originally from Georgia, USA, Lars has built a solid following on his musical travels around the UK, playing on many tours including The Everly Brothers Walk Right Back and the McCartney Songbook.

Welshpool-based Dai Robs grew up on the mid-Wales coast and in his teenage years played in several rock bands before following his love for a more ‘chilled-out’ form of music. He has since played at festivals and venues around the UK and released his first self-titled album.

Also waving the local flag will be Tammy Wilde and Barry Williams. From Montgomery but now studying vocal performance at BIMM in Manchester, Tammy has performed at many Charman Promotions events including on the showcase stage at Welshpool Country Music Festival.

Barry has pursued a solo career since the passing of his songwriting partner, performing in Shrewsbury and co-hosting the Welshpool Songwriter Sessions with Charman Promotions.

“We’ve been wanting to stage this very special night in tribute to our good friend Tim for some time, but have been prevented by the Covid pandemic,” said Stewart. “We are hoping that many will join us for what promises to be an evening of top-quality music raising funds for two worthy causes.”

‘An Evening For Tim’ takes place in Welshpool Town Hall on Saturday, February 12, with doors opening at 6pm and the show starting at 7pm. Entry will be £10 per person cash only on the door – members of the NHS and Emergency Services will be admitted free on production of proof of ID, as a thank-you for their continuing efforts especially over the past couple of years.

The latest Covid regulations will be followed.
