29/03/2022 @ 09:00

Local art group Celf-Able is to be a host for Engage Britain’s Reconnection Tour.

Starting at The Institute, Llanfair Caereinion on Saturday between 11am and 1pmthe group will be making wire and wood tree sculptures to make an art installation, ‘Coed Y Ddaear/EarthWood’, working with artist Amy Sterly.

Further sessions will in turn be in Llanfyllin, Machynlleth, Newtown and Guilsfield, every Saturday morning until the end of June, when the installation will be ready to go on display in public spaces around Montgomeryshire.

All the community are welcome to be involved and for those who cannot attend sessions they will be able to cut a leaf shape out of a piece of recycled plastic and write a message to the Earth on it in marker pen/sharpie, and send it to the group to be attached to a tree.

Engage Britain are a fully independent charity, giving people a say on what matters most to them. They want to make our country stronger by taking on its problems together. You can find out more about Engage Britain on their website https://engagebritain.org/.

The pandemic has highlighted, amongst other things, people feeling disconnected (isolated, disengaged, lonely etc.) from themselves, others, the community, and decision-makers. The Reconnection Tour will take place in Spring 2022 and enable people and communities to reconnect in meaningful and longer-lasting ways.

“Celf-Able are delighted to have been chosen as one of the Hosts in Wales, and we hope that as many people as possible will join us to make the installation, either by coming to a making session or simply sending us a leaf to add to the trees,” said a spokesperson.

Celf-Able is an art group in Montgomeryshire and is open to all, but run by disabled and disability artists, providing opportunities for people to get together and do art, share and learn from each other.
