Council director to quit post

An executive director at Powys County Council is set to leave the authority for a new post in South-West England.

Ali Bulman, Executive Director for People and Organisation Development, will leave the council to take up a new role of Strategic Director-Care and Wellbeing with Cornwall County Council in the summer.

Ms Bulman took charge in 2018 following a damning report of Powys children’s services by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate, and only two years ago she vowed to see the job through after giving her “personal commitment to Powys, not just in overseeing the immediate improvement of our services, but long-term investment to see these improvements through and develop a culture of continuous improvement”.

But now she is on the move with Chief Executive, Dr Caroline Turner, saying: “We thank Ali for her hard work and dedication, particularly over the past two years when services were under severe pressure with the pandemic. We wish her well in her new role.

“I will be discussing the recruitment process and the council’s future executive management arrangements with the new leader and cabinet after the May county council elections. Interim arrangements will be put in place until a long-term structure is in place.”
