Art and Design Students at NPTC Group of Colleges – Newtown College in Powys have collaborated with Fashion-Enter Wales and are in full creation mode in preparation for next month’s fashion extravaganza.

Thanks to the Kornit Presto digital printer at Fashion-Enter the students have been able to create their own unique fabrics and now, with the support of the Fashion-Enter Wales team, are pattern cutting and stitching together their one-off designs.

The ‘Made in Wales’ show will take place on Friday 8th July at the impressive Royal Welsh Warehouse, a building steeped in fashion history.

It will be a celebration of both manufacturing and design to put Newtown and ‘Made in Wales’ firmly back on the fashion map. Hosted by S4C's Bafta Cymru-winning presenter Mari Lövgreen and with high-profile Guest Speaker Simon Platts, Director of Responsible Sourcing for ASOS and Jenny Holloway CEO of Fashion Enter.

The event will also be open to the general public with limited tickets available.

All visitors will gain an insight into the world of fashion, the unique designs, sustainability and careers in the fashion industry. Two catwalk shows will culminate with a grand finale and party.

Carys Jones, Art & Design Lecturer said: “There is a real buzz in the Art department as we get closer to the big event. We are now at the stage where the students’ designs are coming to life as we start the production process with Fashion-Enter.

“This collaboration is giving our students a unique opportunity to work on a live brief with industries on our doorstep.”

Tasha Perry, Art and Design student commented: “I’ve been working on a fashion collection inspired by Laura Ashley. The project is a really good opportunity for us to showcase our work and get a good insight into the fashion industry.”

Student Tianna Green added: “I’m excited for the fashion show. Things like this usually happen in big cities, so it’s fantastic that such an event is happening in Newtown. I can’t wait to see my designs on the catwalk.” Added
