Blink and they're gone....

The Gods were smiling on Welshpool this morning as great autumn weather welcomed some of the world’s best cyclists for the launch of Day Four of the Tour of Britain.

Setting off from Powis Castle, the field, which included Olympic and World Champions, sped around the town’s one-way system – without taking a wrong turn – and out towards Leighton for the 114-mile stage.

While the crowds didn’t rival that of a Royal visit, there was still a healthy turn-out which provided a colourful and memorable occasion for the scores of school kids who were given time off to watch and cheer them by.

One reader sent in these photographs and commented: “It was really good for the town. About 100 riders and just as many motorcycles and support team members. It was well worth coming down to see and hopefully it will position the town in a positive light and encourage more visitors in the future.”

The riders headed to Montgomery, Abermule and Newtown before travelling south to finish at Caerphilly Castle later today.
