Join Sian and vote Powis Castle!

14/10/2011 @ 03:09

Powis Castle has been nominated as Wales’s favourite National Trust walk and local TV celebrity Sian Lloyd is encouraging fellow countrymen and women to join her in voting for Welshpool’s popular tourist attraction to be the best in Britain.

Sian, who lives between Welshpool and Newtown, was one of eight celebrities asked to name their favourite National Trust walk and Powis is up against selections by other personalities including comedian/actor Omid Djalili, 80’s music icon Toyah Wilcox, and TV presenter Zoe Salmon.

And Sian hopes that the tremendous national fervour surrounding the Wales Rugby Team at the moment will translate into everything Welsh and boost the Castle’s chances of winning.

She said: “I think hand on heart I would have to say the redness of Powis Castle is what appeals to me. I know it’s been described as Italian terracotta, dusky pink or whatever, but forget that - Powis Castle is a red castle, especially in autumn!

“You walk around the grounds and look back and see the red of the vines, the red of the leaves and Powis glowing red in the autumn sunshine. And of course red is the colour of Wales so I feel that it really pulls at the heart strings.”

But the stunning 800-year old castle faces tough opposition from across the British Isles with the celebrities all promoting their favourite walking locations in their own backyards.

However, there is an added incentive to vote Powis Castle with the staff are offering a free slice of Bara Brith if you visit the Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/NTPowisCastle, watch the video and then finish the sentence, ‘In Powis, you’re the …?’. Tell staff at the Castle restaurant the answer you will receive the free slice.
