Keeping us on the Wright track!

A Welshpool taxi company has introduced a community service that will hopefully keep us all on the move this winter.

With grim winter weather forecasted this week, Steve Wright, of Wright Taxis, is giving his own real time weather forecasts as he battles the elements through the night, enabling residents to wake up to a spot-on local road report with their breakfast.

Mr Wright started posting updates last year during the horrendous prolonged ice snap and saw his Facebook followers rocket above 800.

“I do it to hopefully make drivers aware of danger before they set off on our roads in the morning,” said Mr Wright. “The feedback I receive is really rewarding; it makes me feel good knowing you are helping your local community.”

While weather services like Sian Lloyd’s, which mywelshpool is in partnership with, give an overall summary for what we can expect from the Met Office, Mr Wright’s unofficial service tells motorists what the road conditions are like through his own first hand experience.

So what did the Welshpool area wake up to this morning (Wednesday)? Mr Wright posted at about 3am: “Please watch out this morning!!!!! Wind very strong; we have had sleet and rain through the night, and lots of surface water on roads! Pool Quay, Llandrinio Road and it’s even like a river down Red Bank. PLEASE JUST BE AWARE IT'S BEEN SLEET/RAINNING ALL NIGHT. Night night x!”
