'New' live music venue in town

02/05/2012 @ 03:45

The Royal Oak Hotel is playing host to some of the area's most exciting musicians as well as touring acts from all over the country and abroad on its new Friday night music nights, dubbed 'Oak Live'.

Live acts will be playing every Friday night in the 'red' room adjoining the bar which will be set up exclusively to ensure a warm, intimate environment for a collection of acoustic performances. Already booked for the May and June programme are 'Britain's Got Talent' contestant Alex Davies (right), Jonny Keeley, the front man of Fight the Bear, who received airplay on Radio 1 recently and Chris Cookson, lead singer of Halflight, whose records have been chosen as track of the month on BBC Radio Shropshire and also received airplay on BBC 6 music.

In addition to this there is also an evening with award winning jazz guitarist Will Barnes.

Oak Live kicks off this Friday with an acoustic set from local band String the Marionette, who are currently in the area finals of 'Live and Unsigned'. They will be supporting singer-songwriter Dai Robs, who only last year played in the O2, London in the grand final of the UK's biggest non-televised singing competition. After the acts have played there will be an eclectic DJ set from Dru Lewis.

The nights not only provide a platform for exceptional local talent, it brings touring artists to the people of Welshpool and Mid Wales through regular live music in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

All Friday acoustic evenings are FREE entry and first act will begin at 8:30pm.

In addition to the Friday night shows, there will also be tribute acts, live band nights and other more lively events in the venue's Powys suite. Details of these will be announced in the near future.
