Welshpool’s 25th Country and Western Music festival will take place this weekend whatever the weather, organisers have announced.

Whilst so many shows and festivals have been cancelled across the UK this year due to the weather, the longest running festival in Welshpool will go ahead on its traditional home of Powis Castle Showfield after discussions ruled out a switch to the Smithfield.

The festival has raised more than £300,000 over the years for the Heulwen Trust, which runs two boats on the Montgomeryshire canal, giving free rides to children with disabilities. And the annual boost is vital to the charity’s survival. Entertainment begins Friday through to Sunday.

David Corfield, Chairman, said: “There are so many people looking forward to this weekend, that we are doing our best to make sure that people will have a great time. We know that there are some regulars coming, who have been every year since it started, and also that there are many others who are coming for the first time”

He confirmed that 200 caravans and motor homes have already booked their pitch. There will be a 80x40 beer tent run by The Angel while another 90x30 tent will be a welcome addition to the field, complete with hard dance floor for the line dancers. The very popular tea tent has also grown in size to 30x20 feet.

The line up of bands and the newly updated sound system will ensure that the music will be of the highest quality.

Another appealing offer is the 50% discount on entry to Powis Castle over the weekend, providing you turn up in full western gear. The festival takes place by kind permission of the Earl of Powis on the show field at Powis Castle.

Day tickets cost£12.50. All details are available on www.countrywestern.org.uk
