Take a Great Welsh Walk!

10/09/2012 @ 03:51

The National Trust is encouraging local residents to explore the stunning Welsh countryside this autumn by launching the Great Welsh Walk.

More than 50 guided walks have been arranged at National Trust venues across Wales as well as 70 downloadable self led trails. The walks will be organised up until November 4.

The National Trust’s Richard Neale said: “There are routes for people of every age and ability, and our guided walks are planned around themes like wildlife, hidden history, family fun, ghost stories, renewable energy and even wild mushrooms.

“The great outdoors holds boundless opportunities to make great memories that last a lifetime. A walk is a great way of spending precious time with family and friends – and there’s plenty to discover and do while you’re out. To find out more and download your free routes go to www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wales.

The Great Welsh Walk is part of the National Trust’s wider Great British Walk that includes an incredible 3,000 walking events, activities and trails.

The charity, which is responsible for Powis Castle, hopes to inspire the public to discover the great countryside and green spaces near them, and has teamed up with leading health insurer and Vitality wellness programme provider PruHealth to share the love for walking in special places.

National Trust will also be seeking to find the nation’s favourite walk, a title won by the trails around Powis Castle last year. Walkers wanting to put forward their favourite walk can do so via www.nationaltrust.org.uk/greatbritishwalk.
