Pupils at Leighton County Primary School will be planting twelve spruce tree seedlings for a double celebration on Wedgesday.
The planting marks 2012’s Jubilee Woods campaign, which aims to plant six million trees nationwide in honour of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee .
The tree planting also marks the annual FSC® Friday campaign, celebrating the sustainable production of wood and responsible forest management world-wide.
The trees, being presented to the school by local builders merchants Boys & Boden of Welshpool, are some of the 100 million new trees grown this year by SCA Timber of Sweden, whose forests cover an area equivalent to 3.5 million football pitches, and are certified under the Forest Stewardship Council system
One of SCA Timber Supply’s three UK sites is in Welshpool. Wood from SCA is available to the public through Boys & Boden.
