Pro golfer tees up Kili challenge

A professional golfer and a Guilsfield resident are on their way to Africa to take on a gruelling climb for charity.

Jack Roberts, an instructor for the Mid Wales Golf Academy, and Kat Morgan fly to Tanzania on Thursday to spend eight days climbing up and down Kilimanjaro to raise money for Lingden Davies Cancer Research (http://www.lingendavies.org.uk/).

The pair have spent the harsh winter months training in Snowdonia tackling peaks like Cadair Idris and Glyder Fawr as well as local walks taken in the Breidden Hills and Pistyll Rhaeadr.

But ‘Kili’ presents a whole new challenge with the pair already undergoing some unpleasant experiences, like a number of vaccinations and medication to make sure they are prepared for the 5,895-metre peak. Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world.

Kat lives near Guilsfield and works as an industrial psychologist for Consensus International (Maritime) in Oswestry. She has previously raised over £16,000 for this charity through various fundraising events over the past five years.

Jack and Kat have so far raised more than £1,000 and to show your support, you can donate through https://www.justgiving.com/JackandKat. They expect to be back in the UK on January 14.
