Sharing a point of Pinterest!

In her first monthly column of the New Year, Sarah Rowlands of purebeauty turns philosopher after discovering the latest social media fad...

"Happy New Year Everyone, let’s make it a good one!

Here we are at the start of a New Year. I’ve got to say 2012 was pretty good for me, lots of positive things for pure beauty including expansion of the salon creating extra room to accommodate the ever growing clientele. We were also nominated at the 'Chronicle Business Awards' in the category for best Small Business and celebrated our busiest Christmas to date, not bad!

After enjoying a couple of days off over Christmas I’ve come back to work with more determination than ever and look forward to the year ahead to see what it will bring in the sense of new treatments and new ideas. There's lots of work to do and February will be our 4th birthday, not to mention mine (but I will be a little older than that, ok ok maybe a lot but I will be sure to make it a good one!).

I had lots of different ideas for this month’s column but couldn't settle on the usual top 10 beauty tips for 2013. So, instead, I’m going to tell you about my new find and love.

I've recently found a new social media called Pinterest. I’m addicted and it's a must for every woman. It lets you organise and share all beautiful things you find on the web. You can redecorate your home, plan trips and find amazing beauty and style ideas! I have recently joined and am using it for business also to share my ideas with my followers of what’s new on the beauty scene along with tips and tricks. It can be a great way of meeting new people with similar interests and I find it really motivating. I came across some great quotes over the weekend to share, they made me smile so have a read and put them into practice!

“I believe that all women are beautiful without make-up and can be pretty powerful with the right make-up.”

So what are we waiting for ladies! Clean out the make-up bag and treat yourself to new products. Be honest, how long have you been using your current mascara? One year? Naughty naughty; if you’re not sure how to start, we offer make-up lessons in salon and can re-vamp that make-up bag for you! Start the New Year with a fresh and youthful new look, confidence is the key here, and if you’re single, changing your look might just attract a new certain someone into your life.

“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is Beautiful.”

So putting the make-up to one side – that’s just the fun bit - a friend of mine told me recently you've got to learn to love yourself a little more. It wasn't until I thought long and hard that I knew that they were completely right. As women we are faced with day to day challenges about the way we look. I work in the beauty industry and I still do it. But I love this quote, think yourself beautiful, if you don’t no-one else will! So make time to do the little things that make you feel special and why not throw in a Detox Full Body Wrap (Only £40) while you’re at it for the extra feel good factor. You'll feel positively buffed and beautiful!

“Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.”

I’ve always loved a challenge, I never know what's going to happen in the end but I have a good go at everything I want to do. So make this a year you try new things, you will be surprised at what it may bring. You could start with something small like a change in hair colour that you have always wanted to try but never been brave enough. Learn something new or think bigger, plan that trip you have always dreamed of! (That's one of mine, i'll keep you up to date with my progress in the next column). At least you can’t say you never tried and I think we should make 2013 a year of trying and becoming a better and happier you.

The moral of the column is start the New Year with a new look and positive thoughts with the energy to try something new. I will leave you on that note as I seem to have switched roles from a beauty therapist to a philosopher!
