Top notch line-up for comedy night

16/01/2013 @ 07:38

The Royal Oak has unveiled three leading names on the comedy circuit to perform at its Official Comedy Club on February 2.

The evenings were launched to great reviews last year and are set to continue throughout 2013 with Welshpool now established on the comedy scene.

The line-up:

Host Comedian - Nik Coppin

“A seemingly unconnected but actually brilliantly-linked routine” Ch4 – 4Laughs

As well as a regular on the UK comedy circuit and performing in many European countries such as France, Germany, Spain and Austria, he has also performed as far afield as New Zealand and all over Australia. His confident, affable and energetic style of comedy is quick to build audience rapport, as he talks about subjects as wide-ranging as observations on human nature, his experiences in the Antipodes, his extensive knowledge of wildlife, current affairs and his mixed race up bringing in London. His mother is English and father is from Barbados.

Opening Comedian - Paul Ricketts

"Weird and wonderful... should be given his own TV show" The Stage

Paul tried his hand as a bird-scarer, chimney sweep, musician, playwright, pornographer, stage hand and primary school teacher before turning to stand-up comedy on the advice of his therapist. Paul's distinctive skewed view of the world informs his black ‘sub–urban’ comedy. His intelligent humour focuses not only on sharp observations from life, but also racial, cultural and satirical subject, intermingled with strangle tales of ordinary madness.

Headline Comedian - John Ryan

“Genius 5" Telegraph

“Upbeat, interesting and unique” ITV

The irresistibly amiable John Ryan uses his acerbic wit and seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the world around him to keep any audience on their toes. His East End Irish upbringing gives him the rare ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. No stranger to either the strange or the norm, he will put an amusing spin on any subject matter going. John has a reputation for thinking on his feet and confidently and cleverly adapting his show to any audience making him a huge hit with Corporate Clients. His high energy and warm personality has also helped rocket his Men’s health shows and Mental Health shows into the limelight with Beyond Prison winning Best Short Documentary at the Scottish Mental Health and Arts Film Festival 2011. Plus ongoing projects with The London Science Museum, Unison and with Surrey and Plymouth NHS Primary Care Trusts.
