Sherlock Holmes is set to be translated into Welsh for the first time, thanks to the efforts of a group of Welshpool enthusiasts.
The super sleuth’s books, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, have been translated already into a staggering 98 languages, but until now not a single word was been printed in Welsh.
But that mystery has now been solved as the Welshpool branch of the Deerstalkers Society say they are investigating ways of raising funds to begin work.
“The Deerstalkers of Welshpool have decided to remedy that situation and publish one of Holmes stories, The Speckled Band, in Welsh,” said the group’s founder Roy Upton-Holder (pictured).
“Unfortunately, we do not have the financial resources, the estimated cost will be in excess of £1,000 to complete the project and so are appealing for donations.
“The donors names will be printed, if they so wish, in the preface of the book, and any amount, however small will be greatly appreciated.”
Cheques should be made payable to The Deerstalkers of Welshpool and sent to: The Treasurer, Sherlock Holmes Society, “Marcella”, Salop Road, Welshpool, SY21 7ET.
