Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies has nominated two Montgomeryshire acts for Parliament’s third annual ‘Rock the House’ competition, and after listening to their music he is confident they are in with a chance.
Rock band String the Marionette and solo singer/songwriter Sam Gomm have been nominated for Band and Solo over 19’s sections.
Rock the House was originally set up to raise awareness of intellectual property rights and live music issues amongst MPs, and is open to anyone who can perform live and produce their own material.
“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians looking to make a career in music. It can create opportunities to perform in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, to gain experience from industry pioneers, and the chance to win new instruments.
“String the Marionette and Sam Gomm are two fine examples of the standard which the competition showcases, and also shows the strength of talent that has always existed in Montgomeryshire."
The prize fund includes equipment, master classes and experience seminars from industry specialists. The competition has captured the imagination of the wider music industry and is supported by Patrons including Brian May, Alice Cooper and Bernie Marsden from Whitesnake.
String the Marionette were formed in Welshpool in May 2010, and comprise of band members Andrew Bonsall (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Ben Dyer (Guitar, Vocals), Jack Coleby (Bass) and Craig Neesham (Drums). The band have a strong live following and produce a unique sound through mixing rock music with progressive elements, with influences ranging from, Ryan Adams, Coheed and Cambria, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Thin Lizzy.
Sam Gomm originally hails from Llanfair Caereinion and released his EP Great! in February 2013, which was recorded at Bos Studio in Llanerfyl. The recordings were all written by Sam and produced by his singer/songwriter father Ian Gomm, who also co-wrote two of the tracks.
