Big Powis Castle event announced

Welshpool is hosting another big event at its iconic Powis Castle this summer and we are all invited to attend.

In keeping with the recent tradition of opening the lawns for an annual celebration, this year the event, organised along with Welshpool Town Council, will have a distinct feel of yesteryear to it.

So mark on your calendars June 22 when the Castle’s great lawns will be awash with stalls, demonstrations and family fun to celebrate to life of Lady Violet, the Countess of Powis, who took over management of the gardens in 1911 until her death in 1929.

A statement from the town council read: “An invitation is extended to all local community, charity and youth groups to have a stand at the event which provides organisations with a chance to showcase their cause and to raise a few funds.

“Preparations are still in the early stages, but if this is something your group would be interested in being part of, then please contact the Town Clerk’s Office on 01938 553142.”

The castle has hosted some memorable days out in recent years with the Queen’s Jubilee and the Royal Wedding both celebrated by thousands on the lawns.
