Local DJ back on Festival bill

Slotting in between headline acts at a Festival featuring some of the biggest names from punk this weekend will be a DJ that Welshpool revellers will know very well.

Lawrence Chapple-Gill returns to Manchester's Strummercamp Festival after his debut appearance in 2012 with New Model Army, and will be on the main stage in between bands on Saturday from midday.

“Since last year's Strummercamp, I've done a few after show parties in Manchester, Preston, Sheffield and Nottingham, mostly following New Model Army,” said Lawrence. “I'm really excited about doing Strummercamp again... I'm especially looking forward to seeing Keyside Strike and Blackballed, both of which have New Model Army connections.”

Headliners at the Joe Strummer-inspired event, named after the late Clash front man, include The Undertones, The Beat, The Men They Couldn't Hang, Vice Squad and Spear of Destiny.

Strummercamp takes place at Manchester Rugby Club in Cheadle and following this weekend, Lawrence said he is planning ahead to the next New Model Army tour when he hopes to DJ more after show gatherings.

“They've just announced dates for November in Leeds, Buckley, Manchester and Bilston - I'm sure there'll be opportunities to organise some after shows around that tour and I already have one or two ideas and plans lined up.”

Facebook users who share a similar taste in music can join Lawrence's Facebook Group too - LCG's Punk & Indie Collective. Members share news, views, reviews and photos related to the Punk and Indie Music Scene, past and present. There are currently over 250 members.

“I got the idea after a few Facebook friends complained about the amount of music videos I was posting on my profile! My response was to set something up where everyone could appreciate the same music as a group and now there are members from across the UK, Europe and even the USA.”
