Be a Local Tourist Week underway

An initiative that encourages residents to learn a lot more about the area they live in is well underway.

The Be a Local Tourist Week is organising a range of activities from open houses to informative talks and guided walks from local experts.

This week’s programme:

Monday

Open house and garden at No. 1 Church Bank from 6pm-9pm. £3 in aid of Marie Curie

Tuesday

The Cockpit is open in New Street from 11am-1pm.

Slide show of 1940s Welshpool by Colin Rogers in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange from 7pm. Admission is £2.

Wednesday

Blessing of war graves at Christ Church from 7pm and at St Mary’s from 7.45pm

Thursday

Christ Church is open from 12pm-3pm.

A walk along the former Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway town centre route. Meet at Tourist Information Centre at 2pm.

Christ Church graveyard tour from 7pm. Meet at main door

Friday

The Cockpit is open in New Street from 11am-1pm.

Christ Church Open from 12pm-3pm

Saturday

Old Photo and Memorabilia Exhibition in Town Hall from 10am-3pm. Admission is free.

Slide show of old Welshpool at Town Hall from 2.30pm.

Saturday and Sunday
Making Waves in Welshpool – The Welsh Waterway Festival - Visiting boats – steam boats – electric boats – Shropshire Adventure Rowing Club – model boats – music – procession of decorated boats – demonstrations and activities – Wild Over Water activities for children.

Ty Mawr Medevial Hall open weekend at Castle Caereinion.

Rhiew Valley Railway at Manafon open weekend.

Sunday

Guided walk around town followed by afternoon tea. Leave 2pm from Methodist Church. Places limited at £5 each so early booking advised. In aid of Cancer Research.

Monday, July 6

Montgomery Canal Forum at Town Hall from 2.30pm. Come along and learn about the canal and plans for its future.
