Well done Lorraine!

A local fundraiser and community champion has been honoured for activities with a British Empire Medal.

Mrs Lorraine Lloyd of Cyffronedd (left) was presented with the honour by HM Lord Lieutenant the Hon. Mrs Shan Legge-Bourke, DCVO at Powis castle this week. She received the honour for Services to the Community in Welshpool over the past 30 years.

Her activities included being a playgroup leader, founder and leader of the Beaver Scout Group in Guilsfield, a school volunteer helping with arts and crafts lessons, she started after school clubs, founder of weekend football clubs for under 9s, and involved in under 11s Mid Wales junior cricket team.

She was also youth club leader in Guilsfield and Trewern and worked closely with Sports Development Unit in Powys.

Since 2008 she has been running health and fitness classes at Welshpool Leisure Centre for patients via a GP referral. Since 2012 she has been a volunteer First Responder, and organised a triathlon to raise £5,000 for the First Responders.

Other fundraising activities included competing in a triathlon, a London to Paris cycle ride in aid of cancer research and a 26-mile moonwalk in aid of MacMillan.
