Local band’s first single is out

It’s tough to crack the music scene, but one local band has launched its bid to be the “biggest band in the world”.

While Jack Brady, the singer/guitarist from Hitchers may have been joking when he made that claim, his band certainly doesn’t lack the sort of cutting edge sound that many big bands before them have built their reputation on.

“We want to be the biggest band in the world with a couple of private jets each and supermodel girlfriends... ha!” joked Jack in an interview with MyWelshpool on Monday, the same day that their debut single Type of Guy was released.

“Seriously though we just want to keep making the music that we love, developing ourselves as musicians and hoping other people like it too. The band is still in its infancy really but the feedback we've had already has been amazing.

“Our DIY demo even got played on BBC Introducing on Adam Walton's show, so we'll just carry on doing what we're doing. This is our first proper release so hopefully it will create a bit more of a buzz for us. Our only previous recording was a demo that we recorded with a guitar hero microphone!”

The band thrives on live gigs with crowds steadily growing both in Welshpool and further afield in places like Sheffield.

When asked if being from a small rural place like Montgomeryshire held them back as an indie punk band, Jack, 23, was unsure.

“It is a lot harder than a lot of other places, especially considering our style of music,” he said. “Trying to build up a genuine following locally is harder because there are fewer people around here that like the style of music we play, however there is a small scene that is continually growing and we're proud to be a part of that.

“But there is also a positive side being from Montgomeryshire as well because there aren't as many bands around here, so it gives us a unique selling point, whereas if you look at bigger cities there are hundreds of bands doing what we are doing.

“I think the main thing though is that you get out what you put in no matter where you are from, we push ourselves as much as we can and this helps overcome any setbacks. I think if we lived on the moon we would find a way of getting our music out! We realise that if you want to create a big buzz the work ethic has to match that.”

Dates have been announced to coincide with the new single so if you fancy bands like The Clash, The Libertines, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Palma Violets or The Cribs then check out Jack and his band mates Matt Lewis (Bass/Vocals) and Shaun Williams (Drums/Vocals) at the following venues:
