Transport Festival taking shape

16/03/2018 @ 09:18

Vehicles of all types and ages will head for Welshpool on June 23-24 when the town welcomes its new Transport Festival.

The event, organised by Welshpool Town Council and involving a host of local organisations and enthusiasts, will see the town centre become a hub of transport activity. The festival aims to represent as many forms of transport as possible, from cars to canoes, horses to huskies, trucks to trains.

Activities spread throughout the town will include vehicle displays, cavalcades, a special intensive timetable on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, horse-drawn narrow boats and coracle races on the canal, model exhibitions and much, much more.

The Transport Festival runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday 23rd, and 10am to 2pm on Sunday 24th, and entry to the event is free. Charges and fares will apply on certain activities.

For those travelling into town, a free park-and-ride bus service will be available from Welshpool Livestock Market on Saturday only, with buses making frequent trips to and from the town. In addition to this a Town Bus service featuring a classic 1961 Leyland Tiger Cub bus will tour the town on both days, stopping off at key venues.

Running in tandem with the Transport Festival, Music for the Monty is a two-day festival of live music held in venues around the town on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. There will also be a fundraising charity concert in Welshpool Town Hall on Saturday evening, 23rd June.

Programmes will be available to purchase throughout the weekend, detailing locations and times of all the activities.
