Gritters out with temperatures down to -5C

Powys County Council staff have worked throughout the day to keep main routes open after the night’s heavy snowfall and there’s a warning of difficult driving conditions ahead.

Gritters were back out tonight at 7-30pm and more teams will be out gritting at 4am with road surface temperatures drop to -5c overnight.

Motorists are warned to expect difficult driving conditions for the morning commute with the potential of icy roads and the message is to take care if you have to travel.

“It's been another difficult time for everyone in Powys,” said a council spokesman. “Just when we thought services would return to normal, the Beast from the East had other ideas. Our staff have been tremendous again, clearing roads in treacherous conditions, and health and care staff making very difficult journeys to support and care for residents in need.

“We would also like to say a BIG thank you to you our residents, yet again you have been clearing roads and supporting one another, going above and beyond to support a neighbour, digging and clearing roads, transporting carers, we are truly thankful for your help and support.”
