‘It’s been completely surreal’

The Welshpool firefighter behind the epic remake of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ says the past week has been “completely surreal”.

Chris Birdsell-Jones has been reflecting on his week in the spotlight since last Friday’s Welshpool launch, which included an appearance on ITV’s This Morning when Chris and three colleagues chatted with Phillip Schofield (pictured).

He has also been contacted by media and celebrities up and and down the country, and even received a visit from local resident and TV personality, Sian Lloyd (pictured below), who also recorded a video message of support.

“It’s completely surreal that all of this has come together in 12 months when I stop and think about it,” said Chris, who hatched the plan following a Christmas night out in town last year.

“To go from an idea in a pub to sat on This Morning’s sofa with Phillip Schofield is just incredible!

“We are overwhelmed with all of the support we are receiving and would like to thank everyone who has bought our song, followed our social media pages and helped spread the word!

“There’s still a lot more work to be done but we are loving every minute of it, and to know that everyone’s behind us gives us an extra boost.”

The single has been ducking in and out of the various download Top 40’s all week and it is hoped that a good push over the next day or two will secure a spot.

Money from the single is being split between The Band Aid Trust and The Fire Fighters Charity.
