Free Wi-Fi for Welshpool?

24/04/2019 @ 08:43

Welshpool is considering creating a Wi-Fi zone for its town centre in a bid to entice visitors.

With hundreds of thousands of travellers expected to drive to west and south Wales via the town over the next six months, planners are contemplating ways of encouraging more people to stop at the ‘Gateway to Wales’.

The town council has made great strides in promoting Welshpool's services, including free toilets and highlighting points of interest, but there are discussions now to go one step further.

The subject of free Wi-Fi has been mooted to gauge opinion, with last week’s Business Forum including it on the agenda, but there are no costings in place yet to consider.

A spokesperson told us: “We are still investigating at the moment but as soon as we get something concrete we will let you know.”

Free Wi-Fi, normally for a limited period of around 30 minutes a day, has proved popular at many British towns and it is hoped that it could twist motorists’ arms to stop and stretch their legs in Welshpool. Many major city centres across the world also now provide free Wi-Fi.
