The WR Davies Motors Group has sold its Ford dealerships at Welshpool and Newtown to the Midlands based Greenhous Group.

Staff at both garages were told the news this week bringing an end to an era which began back in 1924 when William Rees Davies first opened a garage in Berriew.

It is understood that both garages will remain open and staff have been assured that jobs are secure.

WR Davies Motors Group has garages across North Wales and in Stafford. It is understood that these parts of the business are being retained by the company, now headed by WR Davies’ grandson Jonathan Davies.

It will see a return to Welshpool for the Greenhous Group which was originally based on Leighton Road and then known as Vincent Greenhous.

The Greenhous Group is one of the Sunday Times’ top 100 privately owned businesses and consistently ranked in the Motor Trade and Automotive Management Top 20 Dealers.

The business was founded in 1912 by Vincent Greenhous.

A spokesman for Greenhous said: “I can confirm that Greenhous have agreed to purchase from W R Davies their Ford operations in Newtown and Welshpool and it is hoped that the deal will be complete by the end of January.

No-one was available form WR Davies to comment.
