New station car park opens

The new car park to provide increased spaces for those using Welshpool Railway Station was opened this morning (Wednesday).

Since the introduction of the hourly rail service by Network Rail use on the Line from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth through Welshpool has increased by 40% but finding a parking place at Welshpool Station has become a problem.

Today the resurfaced car park on the opposite side of the track was officially opened. The scheme was funded completely by Welsh Government and organised by Welshpool Town Council.

Welcoming the news Town Mayor Malcolm Douglass said: “The improved rail service has increased the passenger traffic at Welshpool so we are very pleased that the Town Council could play its part in constructing the new car park funded by the Welsh Government.

 “It will be a welcome addition to the station.”
