Welshpool High School headmaster Mr Jim Toal has announced that only sixth formers should attend the first day of term tomorrow (Wednesday).
Extensive flood damage caused by burst pipes has created numerous problems, particularly to the canteen and kitchen areas, forcing a massive clean-up operation.
The problem has been compounded by asbestos being flooded in the canteen roof and air tests have been carried out this morning with samples rushed to Llandrindod Wells for testing this afternoon.
Mr Toal said: “Welshpool High School will be open on Wednesday, January 5 for staff and Years 12 and 13 only. Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 pupils should not come to school. Please note that there will be no food available at school on January 5 and staff and Year 12/13 students are advised to bring a packed lunch for that day."
Mywelshpool will bring you further updates as soon as they are available.
