07/02/2016 @ 02:32

Can you play a part in ensuring a safer Internet? Dyfed Powys Police Force says you can and wants you to join in a live Twitter debate on "Safer Internet Day" on Tuesday.

Safer Internet Day is organised in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of on-line technology, especially among children and young people across the world.

Safer Internet Day 2016 – the thirteenth edition of the event – centres on the theme “Play your part for a better internet”, and users young and old are encouraged to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community.

It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.

Dyfed Powys police will hold a live Question & Answer session on Twitter on Tuesday between 12-1pm and 5-6pm, with members of the Digital Communications and Cybercrime Unit and Bethan James the Dyfed-Powys Police School Liaison Coordinator.

Detective Rob Gravelle, Digital Communications and Cybercrime Unit, said"The Internet is integral to the lives of people of all ages and Safer Internet Day is a chance for everyone to do something positive to help make the internet a better place. I would encourage anyone with a question on internet safety to join the Q and A session on Twitter.”

Bethan James said: “Knowing the facts is the key to staying safe online. From social media to shopping online, all ages need to be knowledgeable and responsible. Interacting with us via the Q & A will help reinforce those safety messages and build a safer Internet for all.

"If you have a question to ask the panel about Internet Safety, please follow the Dyfed Powys Police main Twitter account @dyfedpowys and start a tweet with #AskDCCU

Dyfed-Powys Police are also supporting the UK Safer Internet Centre Campaign by using the #SID2016 hashtag in tweets and posts.
