Welshpool lose at Llanidloes

On Saturday, Welshpool played their second four ball better ball match in the Montgomeryshire Golf League losing by 262 points to 232 at Llanidloes.

With all three clubs involved in this competition having played two matches, the standings show Llanidloes with 511 points, with Llanymynech second on 491 points and Welshpool third with 490 points.

The second round of the President's Cup was played at Welshpool. The field was relatively small with Keith Evans (20) winning with 38 points. William Pritchard (13) was second with 33 and Charlie Emberton (18) was third with 32 points.

On Sunday, much improved weather and a good sized field competed for the Wilson Cup.  Dan Stephens (5) proved triumphant for the first time year with an outstanding score of 42 points from the competition tees. With the next three competitors all scoring 41 points, the count-back was to prove decisive.  In 2nd place was Ian Macleod (24) with Ian Cadwallader (20) third and Justin Williams (5) fourth.

On Tuesday, 12 months bragging rights were soundly secured in the seniors' "Dragons v Lions" match. The triumphant Welsh won by 4 games to 2 to repossess the trophy held by England for the last 12 months.

On Thursday the seniors' captain, Paul Butterworth, had arranged his away day at Denbigh Golf Club. And the winner was Eddie Cooper (23) with 36 points and Cyril Clifton (24) was second with 35 points. Derrick Arthur (25) was third with 34 points just beating Derick Robbins into fourth place on count-back.
