Work is underway on Welshpool’s new B&M Stores alongside the Tesco site on Mill Lane.

Workmen have moved onto the site and ground preparation is well underway for the new superstore and adjoining premises which is earmarked for a pet grooming and veterinary services business.

The company has bought the site behind the ugly blue fencing from Tesco and received permission for the development plans from Powys County Council.

From its first shop in Blackpool, B&M has grown to over 450 stores and is recognised as one of the leading variety retailers in the UK, employing over 20,000 staff, selling top branded products and attracting over 2.5 million customers a week.

Inspire Designs of Cardiff was engaged by the site’s new owners TJL UK, which has a Jersey address, to take the scheme forward.

The application says the development will contribute to retaining expenditure within the Welshpool area to meet the shopping needs of many people and will create new jobs.
