Organisers of this weekend’s Bob Jones Memorial Air Show have warned motorists to stay away from the site if they have not pre-booked parking.

They have also revealed which roads will be closed as they step up safety to make the Air Show as enjoyable as possible for the thousands expected to attend.

There will be free parking at the Park & Ride operated from Welshpool Livestock Market where a relay of free shuttle-buses will ferry show visitors back and to the airfield. The shuttle bus will also stop at Welshpool Tourist Information office and the railway station.

There is only Premium Parking at the airport which must be pre-booked, while the A490 past the airport will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians all day.

There is no access to Premium Parking from the A483 as the approach must be made via Leighton and/or Cilcewydd and all Premium Parkers must be on site by 12pm. Access after 12pm is by Park & Ride buses only.

Air Show Display Director, Peter Sinclair said: “The best, and safest, viewing position for the Air Show will always be at the Airport. If you chose to view from any other position, outside the Airport, please act responsibly and take care of your own safety: Do not put yourself in harm’s way by standing on roads, or under or close to the flight path. It is best to avoid viewing from the Display (Eastern) side of the Airport.”
