A crew from Welshpool will we setting off for Scotland tonight ready for to undertake tomorrows Three Peaks Challenge for Welshpool fire station’s chosen charities for 2016

And as they are traveling there will be a quiz night held in the Smithfield Bell from 7.30pm tonight with all proceeds going towards the charities.

The two chosen charities this year are Princess Royal Neonatal Unit at Telford and money can be donated at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Welshpool-Fire-Station1 and  Birmingham Children’s Hospital at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Welshpool-Fire-Station

We wish to give something back to the very special skilful doctors and nurses of the Princess Royal Neonatal Unit at Telford where Welshpool station's Watch Manager Brendan Mcwhinnie's grandson was treated during a two week stay in the unit in September of last year.

"The care and compassion shown to our family and grandson helped us all get through a very difficult time,” said Mr McWhinnie. “Our fund raising efforts are therefore a very small way to say thank you."

Welshpool Firefighter Russell Pugh donated his kidney to his son, Joseph earlier this year. Joseph and his dad are now on the mend with the 11-year-old travelling to hospital in Birmingham three times a week.

Joseph was born with chronic renal failure and for the last two years Russell has been preparing to donate his kidney after he was identified as a match.

"Staff at Birmingham Hospital Ward 1 have been absolutely fantastic throughout, they are so caring in everything they do for our family - its nice for us to be able to give something back as a small thank you,” said firefighter Pugh

There will be a number of other fundraising events over the rest of the year - we will keep you updated here at mywelshpool.co.uk
