Organisers of the Bob Jones Memorial Air Show said they are pleased with Sunday’s challenging edition which saw attendance down on last year.

Unfavourable weather and new safety restrictions were among the reasons that the record crowds of 2015 weren’t topped, but nevertheless, the show went down well.

Reflecting on the weekend, town clerk Robert Robinson said: “The air show organisation went well even with the new regulations. The team were amazing and coped with the rain and difficult conditions encountered later in the day.

“Attendance was less than last year partly due to the lack of the Vulcan, a possible backlash from the Shoreham incident last year and even more so with the weather. The team are still very positive and what a team they are - all great stuff.

Some of the planned displays fell victim to the weather but six did manage to take to the air including a Red Arrows fly-past and the wing walkers.

Plans are already being made for the 2017 Air Show with a date to be announced soon.
